Bonney Lake Police: Officers Nab Fred Meyer Jewelry Thief, Marijuana Grow Operation Found in Foreclosed Home, and More

The following information from April 21 through April 30 was provided by the Bonney Lake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

April 21, 2013

DUI: Police arrested a woman on suspicion of DUI after observing her driving erratically on eastbound State Route 410 from 211th Avenue East toward 214th Avenue East at about 11:30 p.m. She was also cited for driving without headlights on after dark.

DUI Collision: Police arrested and later released a woman after she was cited for DUI and improper lane usage after they responded to a report of vehicle vs. power pole collision on the 20300 block of Church Lake Drive at 11:57 p.m. The impact had reportedly partially split the pole but it remained structurally intact. The woman reported no injuries.

Felony Theft: Bonney Lake Police, with help from Puyallup Police, identified and later arrested a man suspected of stealing two tennis bracelets worth $7,100 collectively from the Bonney Lake Fred Meyer at about 8 p.m. The man reportedly asked a sales associate to show him two tennis bracelets he was considering for his girlfriend. The associate reported he snatched them out of her hand and ran from the store. On April 28, Puyallup Police reported detaining a vehicle involved in a suspicious incident at the Puyallup Fred Meyer. One of the passengers in the vehicle was later identified by the Bonney Lake sales associate as the suspect who stole the jewelry. The suspect told police he stole the items to support his drug habit. He may also be responsible for other thefts from other Fred Meyer stores – the investigation was ongoing.

April 23, 2013

Residential Break-in: Police received a report at 10 a.m. that a home on the 6400 block of South Vista Drive East had been broken into and some parts of the interior damaged. The responding officer noted holes made in the sheetrock walls and some kitchen cabinets that had been destroyed. A partially hidden closet in the master bedroom also revealed a marijuana grow operation. There were no signs of forced entry into the home, which is a foreclosed property.

April 27, 2013

Warrant and Drug Possession: Police stopped a man on a bicycle who was not wearing a helmet on the 10200 block of 199th Avenue East at 5:43 p.m. When discussing why he was stopped, the officer noted the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant. A search of his person also revealed he was carrying several methamphetamine products. He was arrested for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Property Damage: An officer on patrol at Allen York Park at about 10:10 p.m. noted that a three-foot panel of fencing that protects the police boat dock was missing and had fallen into the lake. The damage was estimated at about $50 to fix.

April 28, 2013

Property Damage: A resident on the 7700 block of 183rd Avenue East reported to police at 4:15 p.m. that someone had torn her mailbox to pieces. The responding officer corroborated the observation. She believed the vandalism would have occurred sometime between 10 p.m. the previous night and 2 p.m. that afternoon.

April 29, 2013

Hit and Run with Injury: Police cited and released a driver for hit and run to an attended vehicle and failing to stop at a traffic signal, which caused the initial collision, after responding to State Route 410 at 192nd Avenue East at about 7 p.m. The suspect driver told police he had panicked and so initially continued driving before eventually coming to a stop at the Grocery Outlet parking lot. A toddler in his vehicle was taken to Mary Bridge Hospital for injuries sustained due to shattered glass. Witnesses indicated he did stop well off the roadway after the initial impact but continued to drive away, giving the impression he was fleeing. He again told police he panicked.

Jewelry Thefts: A citizen reported to police by phone at 4:12 p.m. that several pieces of jewelry were stolen from her mother's possession while she resided at Cedar Ridge Retirement home between October 2012 and March 2013. They included a solid yellow gold wedding ring, a 0.5-carat green amethyst, set in 14 carat white gold, 12 small pearl clusters, inset with crushed diamond swirls and a Mother's Ring (14 carat white gold, 7 birthstones inset: 2 garnet stones, 1 aquamarine, 1 ruby, 1 peridot, and 1 diamond).
