Boy Who Triggered Amber Alert Found Safe In Bonney Lake

An Amber Alert was launched today after a four-year old boy was abducted from Chehalis around 10 a.m. this morning by his father. Both were found in Bonney Lake.

A Chehalis boy who triggered a statewide this morning is safe in Bonney Lake, according to Bonney Lake Police.

According to KOMO News, Dustin Reed, 35, took his son Jacek Reed, 4, from a family counseling center in Chehalis around 9:15 a.m. and assaulted a friend of the boy's mother by supposedly running them over with his car while fleeing the scene.

Bonney Lake Police Chief Mike Mitchell said Chehalis police booked the man on assault charges in the second degree, in addition to other charges. According to the initial Amber Alert, the suspect is "onΒ anti-depressants and has access to weapons as is active military." Reed is an active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Knox in Kentucky and is on leave.

Bonney Lake police were alerted by Chehalis PD after a 'ping' on Reed's cell phone put him in Bonney Lake. At 2:18 p.m., Bonney Lake police officers were dispatched to the Fred Meyer area and located the suspect vehicle in the strip mall between Safeway and Fred Meyer. Reed and his son were found inside the car and were taken into custody without incident, said Bonney Lake police officer Terry Carter.

The man was placed in Chehalis PD custody and the boy was checked out by East Pierce Fire and Rescue at the station and appeared 'in good spirits,' said Carter.

The boy's mother picked up her son from the Bonney Lake police station at 6:30 p.m.
