East Pierce firefighters battled a 1.5 acre brush fire at the end of Falling Water Boulevard Sunday afternoon but were reportedly able to contain it by about 5 p.m. in the evening, according to local reports.

The fire was located off 181st Street, according to the department, and first reported around 1 p.m.

No homes were threatened. East Pierce reported on Facebook at about 5 p.m. that the crews were still extinguishing the fire but that it was contained.

“Our main concern was the homes in Falling Water,” says East Pierce Assistant Chief Russ McCallion. “Fortunately, no homes were threatened and no one was evacuated.” At one point, winds began blowing the fire toward the subdivision, but shifted again before the subdivision was in any danger.

East Pierce crews will be back out again tomorrow to continue mop up efforts. “It’s well contained, but there is a good deal of highly-flammable materials around, such as slash from logging. We want to keep an eye on it,” McCallion says.
