Head-On Collision Sends Drivers to Trauma Center, Shuts Down Part of SR 410

A head-on collision occurred Tuesday evening on the 24400 block of SR 410 East in Bonney Lake, sending two drivers to the trauma center and shutting down SR 410 at 234th St.

UPDATE

The Washington State Patrol has released more information about this accident and have determined that at least one of the drivers was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.Β 

A 43-year-old male driver from Spanaway was traveling in a pickup westbound on SR 410, approaching 234th Ave. E. He made a U-Turn across SR 410 to begin traveling eastbound, crossed the center lane and struck the second vehicle head-on.

The second car, a sedan, was driven by a 23 year-old woman from Buckley.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital for injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

A head-on collision between a sedan and full-sized pickup truck sent two drivers to a trauma center and has shut down SR 410 at 234th Ave. E. in both directions Tuesday evening.

The collision was first reported by WSDOT at 9:20 p.m. and continues to be blocked into the evening, with WSP officers on scene.

WSP estimate the vehicles were traveling at approximately 50 to 60 mph when they hit, according to East Pierce Fire and Rescue. Rescue crews report that it took more than 30 minutes to remove the driver of the sedan from the car and they were forced to remove the entire roof.
