Man with Gun Prompts Lockdown at Mountain View Middle, Bonney Lake High

A report of a man with a weapon in the vicinity of Mountain View Middle and Bonney Lake High put both schools in temporary lockdown on Fri., Sept. 23.

Mountain View Middle and Bonney Lake High were placed under temporary lockdown in the early hours of Fri., Sept. 23 after two students reported seeing a man with a gun nearby.

The Mountain View students told police that they saw the man in the wooded area just outside the school’s perimeter fence around 8 a.m. The man was holding a pistol and fled on foot after he realized the students were watching him.

The man is described as African American, between 20 and 30 years old, 6 feet tall with medium build. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and black shorts.

Both Mountain View Middle and nearby Bonney Lake High were placed under lockdown by school officials at 8:36 a.m., but the lockdown was relieved at 9 a.m. BLPD and Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputies searched the area but did not locate the individual, and no one else in the neighborhood reported seeing anything suspicious.
