The Mount Rainier Baseball Association announced Friday that board members have unanimously voted to terminate the membership of David Engle from the association following his arrest Tuesday stemming from federal charges of possession of child pornography.
The MRBA cited item C6.2 of the league Constitution for its action, effective immediately. Engle was being relieved of all duties associated with MRBA including, but not limited to: Babe Ruth Player Agent, Head Webmaster for MRBA Babe Ruth website and coaching of MRBA players.
The MRBA asserts it had no previous knowledge of Engle's history and ran background checks on all board members, managers and assistant coaches each year. According to the association, Engle passed the most recent background check conducted in March of this year through the Washington State Patrol's "Watch" website.
"MRBA has dedicated itself to being a sports league that builds better citizens," the statement said. "We are committed to the youth that we serve and will continue to provide a safe environment for them to play."
Engle's detention hearing took place today, Friday, Nov. 9 in which he was ordered detained and remanded to custody, according to court records.
