Pierce County Deputies Return Fire, Shoot Woman Following Traffic Stop Near Sumner

Department Spokesman Ed Troyer said the suspect opened fire on deputies following an afternoon traffic stop. She remained hospitalized and on life-support Sunday evening.

Pierce County Sheriff's deputies shot and critically wounded a woman Sunday afternoon following a traffic stop on Highway 410, King 5 News reported.

The woman, who remained on life-support late Sunday, apparently first shot at deputies following the stop, Pierce County Det. Ed Troyer said. Deputies also shot and killed a pitbull in the car.

Officers had attemped to pull over the suspect's car after they noticed it speeding through parking lots, Troyer said.

No motive for the shooting was reported. Officers closed State Route 410 in both directions and set up a command post at Meyer Road. It did not reporen until after 7:30 p.m.
