Pig Love: Police Chief Goes Hog Wild at Fundraiser

Bonney Lake Police Chief Mike Mitchell knew he had to have the Seahawks pig that stole the show at Mayor Neil Johnson's fundraiser. It now lives in his office, waiting to bring smiles to face of kids facing cancer at Seattle Children's Hospital.

At last month, Bonney Lake Police Chief Mike Mitchell had his eye on the prize–a large blue pig sculpture wearing an adorable Seahawks scarf.

He made his intentions known to other partygoers, which proved to be a mistake. The night’s MC, Bonney Lake football coach Peter Esser, and his wife bid against the chief to up the ante–Mitchell ended up spending $725 on the pig.

The winning bid on the pig included the opportunity to have it autographed by members of the 2011 Seahawks team. That is, if they figure out the lockout.

Mitchell hopes to get the pig signed by all of the Seahawks and donate it to Seattle Children’s Hospital.

“I’m waiting to hear back from [the Seahawks] on when we can get this signed,” said Mitchell. “I am trying to negotiate for them to come to the hospital, so the kids can meet the players. Get more bang for my buck.”

Until an agreement is made, the Seahawks pig lives in the chief’s office, next to his desk.

“I was going to put in somewhere in the police department, maybe out front, but then I realized what we’d set ourselves up for,” said Mitchell with a wink. “Because you know what ‘pig’ stands for, right? Pride, Integrity and Guts!”
