Two Teens Seriously Injured in Rollover Accident Near Tehaleh

Two local teens were critically injured in an off-roading accident near the Tehaleh development Wednesday, according to East Pierce Fire and Rescue.

A rollover accident in the woods surrounding the Tehaleh development near the 14200 block of 215th Ave. E. sent two to the trauma centers yesterday, according to East Pierce Fire and Rescue.

A 17-year-old boy from Bonney Lake was off-roading in a 1987 Mazda when it flipped around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 3. He had five passengers, three of whom were ejected from the vehicle when it crashed. It took responders some time to find the car in the woods.

A witness walked to the Prairie Ridge Community Center to report the crash, but firefighters and Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies had to comb the area south of Bonney Lake, near the Tehaleh development, before locating the vehicle and two victims.

A helicopter had to transport one of the patients, an 18-year-old boy from Bonney Lake -- to Seattle for treatment. The helicopter landed on the Liberty Ridge Elementary School field. The second person, a 16-year-old girl, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

The East Pierce Fire Wilderness Rescue team used quads to bring the patients to the medic units from the woods.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the cause of the crash.

This is the Mom of the other Passenger that was air lifted to Haborview. My son is a trooper. Doctors say he was very lucky. Its day 6 in the hospital and 3 surgeries later. He goes in again tomorrow to see if he is ready for the skin graft. He is in lots of pain but he is doing well as can be. He has a long recovery ahead but I thank God for not taking him. He was in the back of the bed of a truck that lost control and he and 2 others were thrown out. 2 in the cab and 3 in the bed. 3 walked away no injuries and Camaro with broken Collor bone and my son is the one who got the worst part of it. Lots of prayers have been sent and many family and friends have came and visit him. He is in better spirits.

Wow Angela... I'm so glad your son is going to be OK. He's got a long haul ahead I'm sure, but he's lucky to have family like you by his side! Your family is my thoughts, as are the other kids involved in this accident...
