Students Learn Bicycle Safety From Sumner Police

About 113 take part in event at Daffodil Valley Elementary School

About 113 students participated Friday in a bicycle safety course put on by the Sumner Police Department.

Bonney Lake Bicycle Shop, located in Sumner, provided free bicycle inspections and East Pierce Fire and Rescue provided bicycle helmet fitting and purchase at a reduced price for 31 students.

The event was part of Field Day at Daffodil Valley Elementary school, which has kindergarten through fifth-graders. For nearly 20 years, Sumner police have participated in the Field Day by conducting the Bicycle Rodeo, which consists of a skills course where students practice safe braking, hand signals and bicycle rules, an email from Sgt. Jeff Engel says.
