Sumner Construction Company Guilty of Pollution Crimes That Caused Mudslides Along West Valley Highway

Stowe Construction, Inc., a construction company located on West Valley Highway in Sumner, pled guilty to federal pollution crimes and violating the terms of a business permit for the Rainier Park of Industry.

Bryan Stowe, the owner of Stowe Construction located in Sumner's Rainier Park of Industry, has pled guilty to federal crimes related to the Clean Air Act, according to an article in the Tacoma News Tribune.

Federal prosecutors said Stowe and his company failed to implement plans to manage stormwater discharge from the property, which led to two major mudslides along West Valley Highway this last winter.

Ecology officials claimed that Stowe's actions endangered a nearby salmon-bearing channel, which feeds into the White River.
