Sumner Man Sentenced to 21 Months for Soliciting Sex with a Minor

The prostituted juvenile was 17 years old at the time of the man's arrest.

A Sumner man was sentenced to 21 months in prison last week in King County Superior Court after his conviction for commercial sex abuse of a minor stemming from an incident that occurred in August 2012, reports The Seattle Times.

According to the Times, the penalty for Gildardo Zaldivar-Guillen would have been a maximum of 90 days in jail for a first time offender, but a new law implemented in June 2010 increased penalties for those who are affiliated with the prostitution of juveniles for sex.

Zaldivar-Guillen reportedly pulled up to the then 17-year-old girl, identified by law enforcement as a known juvenile prostitute, in SeaTac last August and the encounter was witnessed by officers working surveillance, according to his charging papers.

When officers moved in shortly after following them to an area behind a closed business, he admitted he had touched her. She told them he had also exposed himself to her.

Zaldivar-Guillen will also have to register as a sex offender for 15 years after he is released, the Times reported.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the FBI announced the rescue of 3 child victims and the arrest of 9 suspects in a statewide prostitution sweep.
