Sumner Police Ask Public to Help Identify Truck Suspected in Storage Unit Burglaries

The car in this photo is believed to be involved in three storage unit burglaries at Western Self Storage in Sumner on July 2.

Sumner Police need your help to identify the car in this picture for potential involvement in a burglary at Western Self Storage at 1405 E. Valley Highway.

On July 2, Sumner police responded to the location after the manager found holes cut in the chain link and three storage units disturbed.

The storage facility is used to house RVs, boats and trailers, with some buildings and covered parking. According to the police report, the manager found what appeared to be a fishing reel outside the fence and just inside, a pair of bolt cutters.

Upon further inspection of a unit near the fence, the manager found a boat with the tarp lifted to one side and it appeared to him that the outboard kicker motor was missing. Police also noticed a cut pad lock in the boat’s rear step-well on the right side.

In another unit, the corner of a boat canvas was open. In another, a Wells-Cargo trailer door was slightly ajar.

It was hard for police and the manager to tell what, if anything, was missing. The owners of the storage units were called but couldn’t be reached.

A Samsung cell phone was found on the scene and booked into evidence – it appeared to have been run over by a car. The perpetrator cut holes throughout the fence and damaged surrounding shrubbery. Police could not lift any prints from the scene and there are no suspects at this time.
