The waitress walked outside and found them in a car – when she confronted them about the bill, they sped off.

The woman followed them in her vehicle and at one point the suspect car did a 3-point turn to turn around. She stopped her vehicle and got out to block them in the roadway and the suspects sped up. She had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit and the car grazed her knee as it drove by.

Officers ran the name on the card and traced it back to a resident from Gig Harbor. Meanwhile, Puyallup PD pulled over the car in an unrelated traffic stop.

Sumner PD arrived and the woman said that she and the man were at the bar and she admitted to forgetting her card. They had been in an argument and she was upset and forgot about her tab. Both suspects said that the employee did try to confront them in the parking lot but they didn’t know why and denied ever trying to run her down with their vehicle.

The woman was released on her own recognizance and she promised to pay the bill. She never did. Charges for theft were filed with the Sumner court.

STOLEN VEHICLE

An officer responded to the 4500 block of East Valley Highway for a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer contacted the manager of the business, who said that a flatbed truck with a conveyer belt had been stolen from a secured yard.

The manager also said that the car was equipped with a GPS system and he had been able to track the vehicle’s location. The car made several stops before permanently stopping in Roy.

Detectives from Sumner PD, along with members of the Auto Theft Task Force, went to the address but the vehicle was nowhere to be found.

They did find fresh tire marks nearby and determined that the GPS system had been disabled and the truck had been removed from the property.

The next day, the truck was found on Ft. Lewis property. The vehicle was less than a mile from where the GPS tracked it.

The truck was impounded and taken to a secured facility to be processed. A suspect has been identified.

DUI

An officer observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Main St. near Sumner High School during the evening. The side and back windows were fogged over and the car didn’t have its lights on as it entered the school zone. A school function was happening at the time and there were numerous cars and people around.

The officer activated his emergency lights and the car moved like it was going to pull over, but abruptly jerked back into the lane of travel. It finally pulled over at McDonald’s.

The driver was a 32 year-old woman who said her headlights didn’t work and she was heading home. She was obviously intoxicated and there was an opened beer can in the middle counsel.

When the officer asked her what kind of drink she had, she looked confused, then turned away and attempted to hide it by dropping on the floorboards of the passenger side. Beer started pouring out into her car.

She was arrested for DUI and driving with an open container of alcohol. Before she went to jail, she called her boyfriend to pick up her car. He arrived and tested the headlights – they worked.

Officers responded to Top Gun Muffler for a report of malicious mischief. The owner said that sometime between 3 p.m. the day before and that morning, someone had shot through his glass windows with a BB gun.

There were two holes in two windows and it did appear to be shot by a BB or pellet gun. Damage to the glass windows was over $2,000.

There have been other BB gun incidents in the area and someone shot out several car windows nearby. Police believe the cases are connected. If you have any information, please call the Sumner Police Department.
