While police were in the process of arresting the man, his wife walked over from a nearby house and said she was bewildered as to why he was there, because he knew she was playing Bunco. Her vehicle was parked in front of his and she was allowed to take her husband’s car home. The man blew a .144 at the station.

Dec. 18, 2011

Hit and Run, DUI

Officers were dispatched to a report of a pickup that smashed into a pole at the intersection of 72nd St. and 143rd St. The caller advised that there were three men in the car and they mentioned drinking beer.

When police arrived, the men were gone but the front grill of the car was still at the scene. The individuals had gone to the Rivergrove Apartments. Police quickly found the vehicle in the parking lot and the driver was contacted.

The officers smelled intoxicants on the man’s breath and he admitted to drinking. He said he was the designated driver for the evening and that the steering wheel of his car locked up, causing him to hit the pole. The group left the scene because they were close to the man’s house.

He was given a field sobriety test and blew a .155 BAC. He was arrested for DUI.

Hit and Run

A man visited the Sumner Police Department for a report of a hit and run. He said he was at the Fred Meyer when he saw a U-Haul van hit a legally parked truck. The driver of the van exited the vehicle, observed the damage and got back into the van with no effort to contact the driver. Estimated damage to the truck was over $2,000.

The witness took photos of the van and wrote down the license plate information from both vehicles, which he provided to police.

The van was registered to the manager of Bonney Lake U-Haul. Police called and asked him about the incident; he said that other cars had parked too close to him in the parking lot and he got out and inspected the van. He did notice some damage to the truck but could not explain to the officer why he didn’t say anything about it or stay on the scene.

The man was charged with hit and run of an unattended vehicle.

Dec. 19

Bomb Threat

An officer arrived at the Sumner Multicare Clinic for a report of a bomb threat. The manager told the officer that an unknown man with a raspy voice called the lab and receptionist and said there was a bomb in the building.

The officer explained that most bomb threats are not real and are made from disgruntled employees, family members or patients. The officer checked the building and nothing was out of place.

The Multicare employees and patients left for the day and a bomb dog was run through the building, but nothing was found. The officer provided the Multicare security officer with business cards and a case number.
