False Statements, felony warrants

An officer was waiting to turn at the intersection of Parker Road and Main St. when a vehicle pulled out in front of him. He ran the plates and the car returned as stolen. He called for backup and followed the car until it pulled into the driveway of a residence on Garden St.

There was a male driver and three women in the car. The 32-year old driver told police that the car belonged to his girlfriend but had just been returned to her by a friend of his who knew where it had been. They only had it for about one week, and he was giving the other women a ride so they wouldn’t have to walk in the snow.

Officers tried to call his girlfriend but she didn’t answer.

Police observed a black bag with clothes in it in the backseat that belonged to one of the women. The 21 year-old woman told police she was going to her friend’s house because she didn’t have any power. Police were familiar with her friend from previous run-ins so they searched her purse. They found the ID of a woman who was related to the man. She tried to explain that she was just giving it back to her but her friends couldn’t back up her story and it didn’t make sense.

One of the women in the car was pretending to be someone else, when she really was the owner of the wallet. She had a felony warrant. The other woman admitted to having the wallet in her purse because she didn’t want her friend to get in trouble. She was arrested for obstruction of justice.

The third woman in the car also had a felony warrant. All three were arrested.

The man told police that the car was purchased for his girlfriend by her ex-boyfriend. He got the vehicle impounded so she went and stole the Honda for some time as kind of restitution until her car could get out of impound.

He was arrested for possession of stolen property.

Home Burglary

Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress inside a detached garage. The homeowner said he could see flashlights inside his garage. He turned on the lights and he then saw two males running from the garage and fleeing eastbound in a pickup truck down 74th Ave. Ct. E.

The burglars entered through a broken window in the garage. The shop was full of tools and equipment but nearly all the toolboxes were open and tools were missing. Among the items stolen were a detached motor, air tank compressor, chainsaw and a generator.

Police gave the man an inventory sheet so he could report what was stolen and he was given a number for follow-up. There are no suspects at this time.

Car Prowl

An officer responded to Brooks Sports Warehouse on 142nd Ave. E. for a report of a vehicle prowl. The 25 year-old caller said that he parked his vehicle in the employee parking lot that afternoon. During the day, someone broke into his car through the passenger side window and stole his custom stereo system, including some CDs.

The officer gave the man a case number and left the scene; an investigation is pending surveillance footage of the area.
