Sumner Police Blotter, July 19 - 20

July 19

Car prowl, theft

3:34am: A Buckley resident called to report two people who broke into his Jeep and fled on foot, westbound on Washington Street. The man attempted to follow them in his car and was armed with a baseball bat. When police arrived, a witness was contacted. who said he was awakened after hearing someone in his side yard making a lot of noise and knocking his bamboo trees around. He said he armed himself with a gun and didn’t know what was happening. The area was cleared by police.

Officers returned to the reporting party (RP), who was at his brother’s house on Bonney Ave. watching TV when he heard a clicking sound coming from the area where his Jeep was parked. The man said he looked out the living room window and saw someone holding his sub woofer speaker and amp, trying to rip them from the wiring. The man’s jeep is a soft-top and was open at the time.

He said he put on his shoes and ran outside in time to see two young males, one wearing a baggy T-shirt and backpack, walking west on Washington Street. The man said the two guys saw him and took off running, one with a white bike in his hands. He said he tried to get into his jeep and follow the guys, but they cut through a nearby yard. The man got out of his Jeep and followed on foot, located the white BMX bike in the backyard behind a large group of trees and brush. He found his subwoofer dropped next to a tree. He said the suspects got away with an amp, worth $275.

Officers searched the area but couldn’t find the suspects. The bike was booked into evidence and the man was given a case number.

Hit and Run

2:50pm: Officers responded to the Fred Meyer parking lot for a report of a hit and run. The reporting party said that as he was approaching his parked 2007 white Mercury parked in the lot, he noticed a red 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier pull out of the stall next to his on the drivers’ side and back into the side of his vehicle, causing damage to his driver side door. The man said that as he and the male driver of the other vehicle started to exchange information, the conversation took a turn for the worse and they started arguing. The man said the driver of the other vehicle took the piece of paper with all the exchanged info and left without leaving any of his information. The other car’s information was run through dispatch but no phone number for the owner of the vehicle has been located.

July 20

Bomb Threat

12:22pm: Police responded to the JC Penny Warehouse located at 2932 142nd Ave. for a report of a bomb threat. The business had been evacuated. The officer arrived on scene and found all the employees outside in the parking lot. The building manager said she received an anonymous phone call from a male, stating that there was a bomb in the building and that he wasn’t joking, then he hung up. Officers entered the warehouse and did a sweep of the premises and found nothing out of the ordinary. The police checked the building’s caller ID, with negative results on a call-back number.

Malicious Mischief

Officers responded to the Sumner Motor Inn for a report of malicious mischief. The reporting party told police the front and rear tires of his passenger vehicle had been slashed, and he believed the vandalism happened sometime between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. that morning. The man said he had an ongoing issue with a former friend over a girl and that he suspected him of slashing the tires. The man was given a case number but no arrests were made or suspects found.
