The driver who caused the accident tried to leave the scene but his car wouldn’t start. When police arrived, the man was inside a nearby gas station and was eating some pepperoni sticks and corn dogs. Police attempted to speak with him and he wouldn’t respond and attempted to walk away from police, but was stumbling. He told police he was at his daughter’s soccer game and said he didn’t know what happened other than that.

Officers performed a field sobriety test but the man refused to take a breathalyzer test. He was placed under arrest for DUI. After the man was handcuffed, officers attempted to walk him to the car and he fell to his left. When the officer tried to help him up, the man kicked the officer in the leg. The man was booked for DUI and malicious damage to property – a phone system and other items.

Possible Gang Activity, Assault

11:15pm: A resident called police and said her son had just been jumped and his iPod and hat were stolen from him on the 15300 block of Washington St. Her son said he was jumped by three guys, who were approximately 19 years old. The boy had a swollen nose and eye, and a bump on his head. He said the three individuals just pulled up on the car and all three got out and beat him to the ground. He said they did not say anything to him prior to the attack and he did not know who they were, but he knew they are part of the Bonney Lake Fresh Coast Bloods Gang. He said he knew they had been coming to Sumner and beating up his friends. When pressed by police how he knew they were in a gang, the boy wouldn’t say any more. His mom told police she knew that her son and his friends had been targeted by the gang for the last couple weeks after a confrontation at the skate park, where the gang was warned to stay out of Sumner.

The incident was forwarded to the Sumner gang officer for investigation.
