Identity Theft, Drug and Paraphernalia Possession

Police responded to The Holiday Inn for a report of two suspicious women who might be involved in identity theft.

The hotel’s general manager told police that two women were staying in a room together and gave them a bad credit card. He said they had not been able to pay for their room and one of them had gone across the street to the Shell Station and the other was in the lobby, on the phone. The woman who left had dropped several pieces of mail out of her bag, addressed to multiple people from Covington to Bonney Lake. He said that one of his maintenance workers was keeping an eye on the woman at the gas station and they were corresponding through walkie-talkies.

Police spoke to the woman in the lobby, who denied knowing anything about the stolen mail. She said there was nothing illegal in their room and consented to a police search.

Upon entering the hotel room, officers immediately smelled burnt marijuana. They searched her purse and found several documents belonging to multiple people, including Costco membership cards, IDs, rewards cards and mail. They also found a meth pipe and a plastic bag containing the drug.

Meanwhile, the other officers picked up her friend at the Shell Station and found numerous checks from multiple people (including one made out to her friend at the hotel) and a notebook full of names, date of birth and addresses. They also found hypodermic needles, a glass pipe and some marijuana in her purse.

Police also found several gold coins in the woman’s pocket that were similar to ones used to pay for a Kent motel room earlier in the week, where an identity theft incident had also been reported.

The women admitted to “mailboxing,” which meant they were stealing people’s mail from their post boxes. They used the information to build online profiles and open lines of credit in their names. One of the women told the officer she didn’t use the cards they created, but she gave them to men who would then buy her gift cards with them in exchange for sex.

Both women were charged with identity theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana and methamphetamine.

Minors in Possession of Alcohol at the Skate Park

An officer was on routine patrol in Sumner when he noticed four teenagers standing next to a Ford Explorer in the Sumner Skate Park parking lot. The park was closed, as it was after dusk, and the officer approached the group. Two of the teens ran away.

The officer smelled alcohol on the breath of the two boys who stayed – ages 16 and 17. He then noticed a FourLoko in the center consul of the car. The two claimed to not know who’s car it was.

They were both arrested for minor in possession in a public place.

Shoplifting at Sugarbabies

Sugarbabies called Sumner Police to report a theft. The employee said that earlier in the afternoon, a brown football blanket, worth $60, was stolen from the store. She showed the officer surveillance footage that showed a woman carrying a baby in a car seat around the store with a large black bag over her shoulder. The blanket was in the car seat with the baby, clearly visible in the tape. At one point, the woman takes the blanket off the baby, goes behind a pillar and reappears without the blanket. The employee said they searched the whole store and couldn’t find the blanket anywhere.

The woman paid for another item that day with her debit card, but the sales slip didn’t show her name. Sugarbabies called the bank and confirmed the account holder’s name. The next day, they reported the woman’s name to police, who ran her name in their DOL database. The officer showed the photo to the employee, who replied, “I know that woman. She was one of my favorite customers… until now.”

Police are still trying to contact the woman and charges have not yet been filed.

DUI

Police were running radar in the 4600 block of E. Valley Highway and spotted a speeding car. The officer pulled over the 21 year-old driver, whose eyes were bloodshot and droopy; he also smelled of alcohol. He told police he had been at The Log Cabin and had not been drinking, but knew he would be going to jail for drinking.

Police noticed an open half rack of beer in the backseat and an opened can of beer on the rear floorboard, leaking.

He failed a field sobriety test and blew a .132 on a voluntary PBT. He was arrested for DUI.
