Sumner Police Break Up Underage Party Hosted by Sex Offender

After Sumner Police received numerous complaints about loud teen parties at a home on Main Street, they busted a party there and charged the host with furnishing alcohol to minors and failing to register as a sex offender.

Residents complaining of loud parties at a home on Main Street were justified after Sumner Police broke up a teen party at the residence on Saturday, Jan. 20. Several youths were arrested for being intoxicated, and the underage party host turned out to be a convicted sex offender with a warrant out for his arrest from the Washington State Patrol.

According to the report, police cruised by the home about 1:45 a.m. Saturday and saw 15 to 20 young people standing outside the home. The street was lined with vehicles filled with teenagers. When police knocked on the door, the loud voices and music stopped and someone inside shut the lights off.

The home was being rented to a woman who wasn’t home for the party, which was hosted by her 20-year-old son. He wasn’t supposed to be at the residence at all, according to the woman’s lease.

The party host is a registered sex offender, but an absconder since last year. When he walked out of the home with a beer can in his hand, police arrested him for an outstanding DUI warrant from the Washington State Patrol, failing to register as a sex offender and for furnishing alcohol to minors.
