Sumner Police: Fireworks Ignite Porch Fire

The following information from July 5 to July 10 is provided by the Sumner Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 5, 2013

Disorderly Conduct: Police placed a woman in a holding cell at the police station and cited her for disorderly conduct after responding to the 5000 block of 157th Avenue Court East at 12:29 a.m. She was intoxicated and screaming profanities at passers by and responding officers. She was initially given a warning to quiet down but resumed yelling as police were leaving. She had sustained a burn to her hand earlier when she knocked over a metal fire pit.

Fireworks Fire: Police responded to a porch on fire at a home on the 15700 block of 52nd Street East at 1:49 p.m. Damage estimates were about $500 to the porch. Officers located two juveniles who admitted they were playing with fireworks earlier; one of the two admitted to setting off a bottle rocket by the porch and when it went under the porch, a bang followed and they ran off. They denied seeing the porch catch on fire.  No injuries were reported.

Assault: Police responded to a parking lot on the 16200 block of 64th Street East at 3:46 a.m. for a report of an assault between two men that started when one yelled for his ex-girlfriend to leave with him. When she refused, the other man stepped in and a fight ensued. The ex-boyfriend left the scene before police arrived but returned to the police station two days later to give his version of what happened. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for possible charges.

July 10, 2013

Warrant Arrests: Police responded to the Sumner Motor Inn at about 6:30 a.m. after a woman reported she was in a room where a gun was present and she felt threatened. Upon police arrival, officers found two of the room’s occupants had outstanding warrants and were taken into custody. No gun was found, and the woman who reported the threats also told police she takes anti-anxiety medication. During his arrest, one of the two subjects was also found to have drug paraphernalia on his person. He faced further charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
