Sumner Police: Man Arrested for Assault of Ex-Girlfriend, Mail Tampering Reported and More

The following information from June 13 to June 17 was provided by the Sumner Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

June 13, 2013

Commercial Burglary: Police responded to Western Electrical Services at 7:41 a.m. for a report someone had broken into the yard and stolen a truck and trailer. Video surveillance showed one suspect working on the theft between 3:45 a.m. and 4 a.m. On June 14 at about 7 p.m., Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies located the stolen vehicle on the 6200 block of Myers Road in Bonney Lake with some damages.

Trespassed: Police trespassed two people who were sleeping behind a dumpster on the 15700 block of Main Street by several local businesses.

Harassment: Police responded to an apartment complex on the 5300 block of Parker Road East at 6:35 p.m. for a report of an argument in which threatening remarks about a knife were made. The officer found the argument was between a tenant and an individual who reportedly starts trouble with other tenants all the time. No knife was observed and the other individual never exited his vehicle following the threat.

Mail Tampering: A citizen at an apartment complex on the 15800 block of Elm Street reported at 3:28 p.m. that someone had opened her mail inside her mailbox. The boxes was reportedly keyed the same for tenants such that others living there had access to her mail.

Domestic Violence Arrest: Police arrested a man on two counts of assault in violation of a no contact order, two counts of interfering with reporting a domestic violence incident, and one count of third-degree malicious mischief after responding to the 1100 block of 57th Street East at 6:34 p.m. for a fight in progress. The female victim told police she had called her ex-boyfriend for a ride  to run errands and things were OK before he got angry and started to hit her. The assault reportedly continued as she tried to call police. The responding officer noted she had blood on her lower lip and teeth and under her nose. The suspect fled the scene when police initially arrived. He was detained later by Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies and placed under arrest.
