Sumner Police: Vehicle Set Afire, and Man Insisting on Free Bus Ride Assaults Driver and Officer

The following information from June 29 through July 2 was provided by the Sumner Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

June 29, 2013

Domestic Dispute: Police arrested a woman for fourth-degree assault after she punched her boyfriend in the face, in front of police, and also arrested her boyfriend on an outstanding warrant after responding to a domestic dispute outside Schaefer’s Bar and Grill at about 1 a.m.

Tenant Dispute: Police arrested a woman for residential burglary after responding to a home on the 6100 block of Parker Road for a report of a dispute between residents. A tenant who was set to move out told police she had not given permission for the woman to enter her apartment; the woman told police otherwise.  A witness told police the woman gained entry through an unlocked window. The issue was later resolved when the tenant moving out told police all of her possessions had been accounted for.

Arson: Police responded to the 5300 block of Graham Avenue at 3:12 a.m. for a report a vehicle was on fire in a driveway and found it was fully involved, next to a trailer. No one was home in the residence though a back door was unlocked and police secured the home. Officials from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were continuing to investigate the fire.

No Free Ride: Police arrested a man on two counts of third-degree assault after responding to a report a bus driver had been assaulted at the Sumner Sounder Station shortly before 6 p.m. The driver reported the man attempted to ride the bus without paying a fare and at one point when the driver called the man back to the front of the bus for the fare, he grabbed the driver’s arm and declared he was riding for free. He was ordered off the bus and later reportedly attempted to assault the responding officer as well. He was treated for a head laceration while being detained by the officer and later booked into Pierce County Jail.
