Sumner Police: Woman Drives on Sidewalks, Hits First Pentecostal Church

This morning, a woman suffering from a medical condition lost control of her car and hit the First Pentecostal Church in Sumner, according to police.

Early this morning, a woman traveling westbound on Park Street in Sumner drove her car on the sidewalk and into the side of , said the Sumner Police Department.

Police believe the 60 year-old woman was suffering from a medical condition when she lost control of her vehicle. East Pierce Fire and Rescue transported her to the  hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries.

“Apparently, the vehicle went up the sidewalk on Alder Street, travelled westbound until it crossed Kincaid Ave. and stopped at First Pentecostal Church,” said Jason Wilson, administrator for the Sumner Police Department.

There was minor damage to a car parked in front of the church and the building façade, said Wilson, but surprisingly none of the other parked cars she passed along the sidewalk were affected.

“Remarkably, she hit a ‘no parking’ sign on the sidewalk and continued directly down the sidewalk without striking any cars or fences,” said Wilson. “She crossed Kincaid without getting hit, went up on the sidewalk and came to a stop in front of the church.”
