Thieves Steal 800 Pounds of Raw Meat from Smithco Truck

Sumner Police are stumped by a recent truck burglary in the Smithco Meats distribution parking lot.

On Sept. 26, a Smithco Meats employee called Sumner Police when he realized something was missing from his truck -- 800 pounds of fresh, raw meat, to be exact.

Smithco had an exclusive contract to supply meat to all the vendors of the Puyallup Fair. To accommodate the order, Smithco leased a refrigerated tractor and trailer. On Sunday, the truck returned from the fair and was secured in the Smithco loading dock. The following day, the driver discovered that the lock on the main door had been cut off. After an inventory check, it was discovered that 800 pounds of meat were taken from the trailer. Total loss was about $1500.

The surveillance video showed some sort of truck or SUV enter the property after hours; it was parked next to the refrigerated truck for over an hour before leaving.
