WSP Seeks Witnesses To Fiery, Fatal I-5 Collision

Washington State Patrol detectives are asking witnesses to the Interstate 5 fatality collision on Sunday morning to call in.

Early Sunday morning a Renton man — allegedly driving under the influence — crashed on I-5 in Federal way. The accident caused a chain-reaction of collisions involving another car and a semi truck.

The collision killed the semi truck driver and injured several others. DUI charges are pending against the Renton man, 21-year-old Stephen Palmer.

Officials continue to investigate the crash, and the Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses.

From the Washington State Patrol:

Early Sunday morning, November 4, 2012, a three vehicle collision occurred that resulted in the death of a semi driver on southbound Interstate 5 near 336th St. in Federal Way.  The collision is under investigation and detectives are asking anyone who may have seen the collisions or observed the vehicles involved prior to the collision to contact Detective Russ Haake at (425) 401 - 7717

Just before 2:30 in the morning a black Nissan Altima was traveling on southbound Interstate 5 just south of S 320th when the driver lost control and struck the guardrail on the west side of I-5. The Altima was then struck by a tan Toyota Camry. The Altima was in lane two when it was struck by a tanker truck and trailer loaded with aviation fuel. The semi truck, badly damaged in the collision, left the freeway to the west, traveled down the embankment and struck the sound wall, breaking the wall down and rolling over. The driver of the semi truck did not survive.
