Bonney Lake City Council Moves to At-Large Representation

At last night's council meeting, the council voted 6-1 to move from ward to at-large representation.

In this November’s  election, Bonney Lake voters will be able to vote for all council positions as the city transitions to an at-large representation.

The ordinance was approved 6-1 at last night’s council meeting, with only Councilmember Dan Decker voting against it.

There was talk of putting the issue to a city-wide vote or public forum, which Decker advocated for, but after little to no public input, the councilmembers decided that at-large was indeed in the city’s best interests for the future.

During the councilmembers have debated moving to the at-large representation, arguing that it will help the city cut costs of redrawing its boundaries based on the newly released and better address future issues affecting the whole of Bonney Lake, not just segmented neighborhoods.

Four council seats will be on the ballot this November, including three that are currently represented by a ward member.
