Bonney Lake City Council to Consider Multimillion-Dollar Property Sales

The city wants to sell vacant land it bought for a new city hall, as well as property that would be used for a multi-family housing project.

The public can comment Tuesday on the Bonney Lake City Council’s plan to sell land it bought nine years ago as the possible site for a new city hall.

The council plans to declare as surplus the property at the corner of 192nd Avenue East and Sumner-Buckley Highway. The 6.2-acre property is assessed at $1.6 million. The public hearing on the matter is part of the agenda for the Tuesday, May 14, regular City Council meeting.

The council also plans to approve the sale of 4.5 acres of land, at 9320 Angeline Road and 18426 SR 410 E., to Renwood L.L.C. The developer plans to combine them with the neighboring 6.34 acres it already owns along 189th Ave. Court E. to build “a high quality multi-family housing project,” according to council briefing papers.

Renwood will pay $1.09 million for the property and another $200,000 for the city to relinquish its right-of-way easement and to remove the unbuilt section of 186th Avenue from the Downtown Plan.

Renwood’s plans are for a 184-unit apartment complex with a community building, as well as a public pedestrian trail that will link to the civic center and the Fennel Creek Trail. Permits would be “fast-tracked” and construction would start this year.
