Dieringer School Levy Passing with 57 Percent Approval

Majority vote is "yes" for the Dieringer School District two-year maintenance levy. The levy makes up 32 percent of the district's budget.

The Dieringer School District Education Programs and Operations levy is passing with 57.52 percent of the vote as of Tues., Feb. 14, according to the Pierce County Auditor.

According to the voters pamphlet, this levy will produce a tax rate of about $4.82 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

If passed, the levy will provide the district with $5.45 million in 2013 and $5.75 million in 2014.

In an interview with the Bonney Lake & Sumner Courier-Herald, Superintendent Judy Neumeier-Martinson said that the money from the levy will be used to keep class sizes at an "appropriate" level. It will also subsidize transportation and help fund educational and extracurricular programs.

Dieringer's three schools -- Lake Tapps Elementary School, Dieringer Heights Elementary School and North Tapps Middle School -- provide K through 8th grade education on the northern side of Lake Tapps, covering approximately 5.5 square miles.

The ballot numbers will be updated every day at 4 p.m. on the Pierce County Auditor's website until certification on Feb. 28.
