Candidate Filings: Final Results

Candidates have submitted their bids for city council, fire commissioner and school board seats in Bonney Lake and Sumner.

Candidates made their quests to find election gold for various Bonney Lake and Sumner offices official during filing week for the November election. Each city council seat has a term of four years.

The online filing deadline is Friday, June 10 at 4 p.m. and in-person filing ends at 4:30 p.m.

The Primary Election is August 16 and the General Election is November 8.

Here is the final candidate list:

Bonney Lake City Council

This is the first year the entire city of Bonney Lake can vote for every city council member, as the council decided last year. All positions are four-year terms.

  • Both Mark Hamilton and Jim Rackley have thrown in their hats in the ring for another round.
  • Quinn Dahlstrom and Katrina Minton-Davis have both put in their bids for council position #7, currently held by Dan Decker. Dahlstrom is a long-time Bonney Lake resident and Minton-Davis currently serves as vice-president of the city's planning commission.
  • Bonney Lake resident Tom Watson applied for position #5, currently held by councilmember Laurie Carter.
Sumner City Council

All positions are four-year terms.

  • Current Sumner city councilmember and deputy mayor Cindi Hochstatter has announced her bid for re-election.Β 
  • Mike LeMaster has put in a bid for council position #7, currently held by LeRoy Goff. Goff did not reapply for reelection.
  • LeMaster put in a bid to fill Matt Richardson's seat in the .
  • Jon Swanson has officially declared his interest in holding on to his short-term city council seat, #4. He has held the seat since he was selected in a special nomination and sworn in on April 19.
  • Nancy Dumas submitted her candidacy for the Sumner city council and will face off against Swanson for seat #4. Dumas is an independent agent for Lionheart Assurance Solutions in Sumner and is an active member of the Maple Lawn Elementary PTA.
  • Curt Brown announced his bid for re-election in seat #6.
  • Richard Lawson applied for position #4 against Swanson and Dumas.Β 
  • Joseph (Joe) Gerace will go up against Mike LeMaster for seat #7.
  • Sumner resident Melony Kirkish is planning to run against Curt Brown for seat #6.
East Pierce Fire and Rescue

All positions are for six-year terms.

  • Four candidates have emerged for the Fire Commissioner #4 position: Edgewood resident Edward (Ed) Egan applied, as did Bonney Lake resident Victor Proulx, who currently holds the seat. There are two No.4 seats up for re-election. Patrick McElligott of Orting and Rick Kilbourn will also run for the #4 position.
  • Lake Tapps resident Rick Kuss has filed for re-election into his seat as Fire Commissioner Pos. #6.
Sumner School Board

All positions are four-year terms.

  • Puyallup resident Casey Chamberlain and Bonney Lake resident Ron Weigelt have made bids for director of district #4.
  • Lake Tapps residents Jeff DeMarre and Paul A. Bucich are running for district director #2.
  • Puyallup resident Richard Hendricks is making another bid for another term as district #3.
