What: Metro Animal Services is hosting an Open House with community members in as honored guests—and the animals will cheer as they are adopted out to their Forever Families. To view pets currently awaiting their Forever Families, visit http://metroanimalservices.org/Want_search_pets.htm.
In addition to Metro Animal Services, more than a dozen shelters across the state will be participating this year! The Pawsitive Alliance website, www.pawsitivealliance.org, has a list of what fun activities and specials participating shelters have planned for their Open House pawties. In addition, Pawsitive Alliance is hosting the 2nd Annual Super Pets Adoption Event over two days, October 5 and 6, from 10-2 each day at the Yakima Humane Society. Nearly 100 dogs and cats will be available for adoption and eager to greet you as part of Yakima Humane Society’s Open House Pawty! For more information about Super Pets, check out event page here: http://www.pawsitivealliance.org/super-pets-dog--cat-adoption-event.html.
Why: In Washington State approximately 40,000 to 60,000 kitties, puppies, cats and dogs are euthanized each year due to lack of space. Pawsitive Alliance is working hard to bring awareness to the needs of local shelters and their homeless animals. Part of the success of the Open House Event will be driven by uniting the cause, elevating awareness in your community, and bringing attention to each shelter and each animal that shelters care for.
Participating shelters for the first State-Wide Shelter Open House in 2012 saw a 25% increase in adoptions during Open House day and a surge of traffic at their facility during and following the Open House weekend. Pawsitive Alliance hopes to double that success this year.
