"Choosing a long-term care facility is an important decision," said Nellis Kim, regional long-term care ombudsman and presenter of the workshop. "Families have to look beyond just physical appearances. Becoming an educated consumer is critical. Our aim is to provide the tools about what information to get and how to assimilate it all."

The regional long-term care ombudsman is assisted by more than 20 active volunteers who educate residents, staff, families and the community about longterm care issues, resources, resident rights, and quality of life in nursing homes, adult family homes and boarding homes. Ombudsman volunteers also help residents resolve issues they may encounter in their long-term care facility.
