Rainier School, Mount Peak and Area Drinking Water Receive Funds from Capital Budget

Sen. Pam Roach reports helping to secure more than $36 million in funding for local projects as part of the state's capital budget.

Information from the office of Sen. Pam Roach

The capital budget adopted by the Legislature Saturday will cover more than $36 million worth of construction projects of interest to the 31st Legislative District residents served by Sen. Pam Roach, who helped secure the funding.

“These run the range from basic infrastructure – as in making sure people have access to safe drinking water – to 3.6 million dollars for infrastructure and renovation at Rainier School,” said Roach (R-rural Auburn). “The common denominator is that each allocation, no matter how large, is going to make life better for residents of our area.”

Roach said the capital-budget allocations include:

  • $26.7 million for a new trades and industry building at Green River Community College in Auburn;
  • $3.6 million toward a new Pierce County National Guard Readiness Center in Buckley;
  • $3.25 million for a long list of improvements to Rainier School in Buckley;
  • $2.3 million for renovation and infrastructure improvements at Flaming Geyser State Park, outside of Auburn;
  • $525,000 to replace the water reservoir that serves Carbonado;
  • $350,000 to improve Buckley’s drinking-water system; and
  • $89,000 for work on the trailhead and parking area at Pinnacle Peak.
“These projects were brought to me by local elected officials after we contacted them to ask about their needs. The result is this list of fiscally responsible and worthwhile items,” Roach said.
