Roach Bill Saves South Prairie Employee’s Pension Plan

Sen. Pam Roach won legislative approval of her bill to protect South Prairie employees’ pension plan.

Sen. Pam Roach, R (rural Auburn), won legislative approval of her bill to protect South Prairie employees’ pension plan.

In 1998, South Prairie employees joined the Laborers' International Union of North America and negotiated participation in a LIUNA pension plan. It was not until 2011 that they discovered state law prohibited new local government pension plans after January 1, 1990.

Senate Bill 5950 changes the date after which towns are prohibited from establishing new pension plans from January 1, 1990 to January 1, 1999.

“These workers contributed to their pension plan for 13 years before anyone discovered the conflict with state law,” Roach said. “All parties involved acted in good faith. South Prairie was the only town caught in this glitch.”

Governor Gregoire signed the bill into law on March 30th.

This is not the first time or the first person Quinn tried to hurt. I think she has a bitter andRead More evil heart. Instead of building and supporting the city, she prefers to tear down anything good and honorable. I'm so glad the voters saw fit to pass her by when she ran for election! With her attitude, it would have been detrimental to having a nice city to live in! Stuff a sock in it, Quinn!

I will never forget you David. We were connected through a tragic event that at times just feelsRead More like yesterday, and then you were taken from this earth by another tragic event. The 28 years inbetween went to fast. You were humble and down to earth. I feel as though you were surprised at how many people you touched in your 41 years. It was evidence at your service that you are loved by many, and you will never be forgotten.
