Sumner Publishes Northstar Environmental Impact Statement

Just after taking , the City of Sumner published the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Northstar Chemical Facility Project.

The FEIS includes detailed environmental analysis of the proposed project and any adverse environmental impacts that are both probable and significant.  The report then identifies measures that could be taken to mitigate those impacts.  According to law, the FEIS must identify mitigation measures that are “reasonable and capable of being accomplished” (WAC 197-11-660(1)(c)). The FEIS also includes responses to citizen and agency comments that were submitted in 2010 when the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for this project was released and available for comment.

It is important to note that the publishing of the FEIS itself neither approves nor denies any permits. As required by State law, the City will review the information in this FEIS and issue a letter stating its decision regarding the project’s denial or the list of mitigation measures that would be applied to project permits. That letter must be issued no sooner than seven days after publication of the FEIS. The City anticipates issuance of this Letter of Decision on or about April 27.
