Sumner Survey Respondents: Local Transit Good, Paying More than $25 Annually for it Not So Much

The city of Sumner shares the results of a transit survey that was conducted earlier in the year.

More than 470 people responded to a city of Sumner transit survey asking about services that residents would like to see come back for residents now that the city is not in the service area of Pierce Transit.

According to a city analysis of the responses, 64.1 percent of respondents supported the return of a local transportation service and many supported a fixed route service,Β but most did not want to pay more than $25 per year for it.

The analysis concluded that the survey showed no clear indication voters would support either increasing taxes or using public money to support a transit system. At the same time, it found residents needed to be better informed about what transportation options currently exist to service well-traveled destinations like Bonney Lake, Puyallup and Tacoma. One example is the current pilot program Beyond the Borders Connector that provides free transportation to qualified seniors and teens along fixed routes in both Sumner and Bonney Lake (plus a connector line between the two cities) with options to divert off route if the request remained within a certain distance of the route and was made in advance.
