TODAY: County Council Determines Fate of Orton Junction

Patch will be at today's public hearing in Tacoma to bring you the final word in the Orton Junction project.

After months of planning, subsequent meetings, delays and postponements, the Sumner UGA amendment proposal -- Orton Junction -- is scheduled to finally appear on the Pierce County Council agenda today for a final vote.

Come listen and give final testimony on the project today at 3 p.m. in room 1045 of the Pierce County building in Tacoma (930 Tacoma Ave. S.)

Last week, the County Council hearing was delayed due to new documents. Now, the public has had a week to review the principals agreement created by Sumner, Cascade Land Conservancy and Orton Farms LLC, a subsidiary of Investco. The good-faith agreement was put into record last week and outlines plans for a "complete" community.

If approved, the entire development could take over a decade to complete but would bring a mixed-use, 182-acre retail development project to Sumner. The YMCA has pledged itself "shovel-ready" for a 2013 grand opening.

Stick with Patch for the final Council decision.
