Student of the Week: McKenzi Bravo

Peninsula High School's star runner is ranked sixth in the state -- and she's ready to go even faster.

Editor’s note: Every week, Patch will use five questions to profile a local student who has accomplished something awesome, whether it be serving in a leadership role; scoring the winning touchdown or earning an Eagle Scout badge. There are some great kids in our community, and we want to celebrate them!

This week, meet McKenzi Bravo, 16, a junior at Peninsula High School. She is known for her running prowess and is one of the area’s cross-country stars.

1. What are some of your accomplishments that make you our Student of the Week? I ran faster than any PHS girl ever has this year with 18 minutes, 45 seconds for my 5K. I am ranked sixth in the state right now, and it's really exciting. And I've already lettered four times.

I’m a junior senator and want to run for ASB president in the spring. I have a 4.0 GPA and am in my second year as Interact Club president, and the
secretary of admissions for Model United Nations.

2. What are your future plans? I'd definitely love to run in college. Going to Gonzaga or University of Portland would be some of my first choices since I have old teammates at both of those schools. I will most likely major in history or English.

3. Who is someone that you admire? My cross-country coach, Joel Wingard.

4. In 10 years, I will be … a successful woman doing something she loves in a city full of successful people.

5. One of my hidden talents is … I scrapbook often.
