School's Out Forever For These Sumner District Teachers, Staff

Retirement reception planned for Wednesday night at Sumner Middle School

School’s almost out for the summer, but for some educators and Sumner School District employees it’s going to be out forever, too.

The Sumner School Board plans to recognize and honor teachers and staff members who are retiring at a reception at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Sumner Middle School. The reception will take place prior to the board’s monthly meeting.

The 18 retirees have a total of 349 years of service.

Teachers who are retiring include: Karen Purvis, 3rd grade, Carolyn Sherman, 2nd grade, and Kristine Wagoner, 1st grade, all at Victor Falls Elementary; David Johnston, social studies, and Bruce Hoeft, science, both at Bonney Lake High School; Julianne Sparks, 4th grade at Emerald Hills; Donna Robinson, 4th grade at Maple Lawn; Pamela Bauer, 5th at Daffodil Valley; Donna Stark, 2nd grade at Donald Eismann; and Helen McAtee, 1st grade at Crestwood Elementary.

Other staff retiring include: Jane Curtis, librarian Bonney Lake Elementary; Dean Marcus, head custodian, and Marcia Taylor, paraeducator, both at Eismann Elementary; Fran Ellis, head custodian at Liberty Ridge Elementary; Connie Anderson, paraeducator at Maple Lawn Elementary; RaeJean Nelson, registrar at Sumner Middle School; Phil Cervenka, caretaker at Sunset Chev Stadium/M & O; and Tim Taylor, custodian at Sumner High School.
