A longtime teacher at Sumner High School unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, school officials said today.
Chris Prestin, the high school's International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme coordinator, taught at Sumner for 21 years, according to a communication that was sent to families of students on Wednesday and also posted to the high school web site.
"Ms. Prestin touched the lives of many Sumner High School students over the past 21 years," said the statement. "Our staff and community will remember her for her influence on students in the classroom and for her leadership of our International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme."
School officials encourage parents to be patient and sensitive to students as they process the loss. The district provides some guidelines for helping your child through death and grief in a downloadable PDF available on its site.
