The grand reopening of Sunset Chev Stadium is scheduled for September 7, 2012, when the Spartans and Panther football teams charge onto the new turf field to play their first football game of the season in the school rivalry Sunset Bowl game.
Game time is 7 p.m. Halftime show features performances by the Bonney Lake High School and Sumner High School Marching Bands and the Dance-Drill Team. For the fourth year, KING 5 viewers have selected the Sunset Bowl as the Game of the Week.
KING 5’s Chris Egan will do live reports from the stadium and wrap it up with complete highlights.
Staff, students and community members are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to contribute to the Sumner Food Bank. Bins will be at the stadium entrances.
Sunset Chevrolet will be honored in a pre-game ceremony for pledging an additional $500,000 to the District, increasing their stadium sponsorship agreement to $1 million.
As part of the pre-game ceremony, Athletic Director Tim Thomsen and Superintendent Craig Spencer will rededicate the Stadium to celebrate the The renovation also includes installation of a new track, improvements to the pole vault and long jump pits, javelin runway, installation of energy-efficient lighting, upgrades to the press box and sound system enhancements. Stadium renovations are funded, in part, by Sunset Chevrolet’s generous donation to the District.
