Information from the Sumner School District:

As middle school students and families anticipate fall sports and the transition to high school, it is important to remember that semester / trimester course grades follow students to the next sports seasons and determine eligibility for athletic contests for the first half of the new term. 

Students will be held to the following eligibility standards in accordance with SSD Policy and WIAA Requirements:

Eligibility criteria for second semester/third trimester based on end of term grade reports:

  • IE:  1 IE--Student does not meet Sumner School District eligibility standards, will be placed on probation* and miss 1 contest.  2 or more IEs--Student does not meet WIAA standards, will be placed on probation* and miss 1 week of contests.
  • 1:   One 1--triggers probation* but student may participate in contests if tracking sheet grades meet SSD & WIAA standards.   2 or more 1s-triggers probation* AND student will miss 1contest.
  • IEP Students:  Students with 1s will be placed on probation* but NOT be suspended from contests unless weekly tracking sheets indicate otherwise.
  • *Probation (5 weeks of tracking sheets regardless of marks on tracking sheet. Each week's tracking sheet determines contest eligibility for the following week).

Check report cards and gradebook to see if your child is on track to be eligible for the contests in the upcoming sports season.
