Sumner Swim Takes Second Place at District Meet

Sumner Girls Swim took second place at Districts, just behind Interlake High School.

Congratulations to the Sumner High School girls swim team for a second-place finish at District competition, held at Hazen High School in Renton on Saturday, Nov. 5. Sumner had an overall score of 203, a close second to Interlake’s overall showing of 274.

Here is the run down of finals, from head swim coach Dana Powers:

In the “crazy close” medley relay, Sumner placed 2nd by only .04. 1:56.87 Alicia Ditty, Ashley Huynh, Madison Munger and Sami Hendricks.

200 free: Madison Munger easily took first place in a 2:00.80. Kallan Gustafson swam faster than the day before and placed third in a 2:10.35.

200 IM: Ashley Huynh placed 7th in a 2:24.88. Ashley Ditty went in seeded 6th and placed 5th in finals in a 2:24.48.

50 free: Sami Hendricks swam away from the field winning with a 25.42.

100 fly: Madison Munger placed 3rd with a 1:02.61.

100 free: Sami Hendricks had a race at the end and just out touched her opponent winning in a 55.79.

500 free: Kallan Gustafson was seeded 5th going into finals and swam her best time yet, to place 2nd in a 5:49.68.

200 free relay: Sumner won the event easily in a 1:46.20... Munger, Huynh, Elizabeth Martin and Hendricks.

100 back: Alicia Ditty was close to beating her best time and out-touched her opponents in a remarkable finish, winning the event. 

100 breaststroke: Ashley Huynh almost out touched the winner of the event as she raced the 4th 25. Huynh bettered her time in a 1:11.51 placing 2nd.

400 free relay: Gustafson, Alejandra Castro, Martin and Ditty placed 7th in a 4:11.29.
