Kids Pack Lake Tapps Park as School Lets Out

For many it's the first time they have seen the police boat's new home

Almost as soon as school let out for the summer Thursday, young people started showing up in droves at Allan Yorke Park at Lake Tapps.

Some youngsters were even seen swimming as temperatures neared 75  around 1 p.m. It may be awhile before they are in the water again, as the weather forecast doesn’t call for summer-like sun again until Wednesday.

For others, Thursday may have been the first time they have seen the new home for the Bonney Lake Police Department’s patrol boat. The boat is located on a dock behind a gated area at the park. A  is in place to keep the boat safe.

“This is going to be a great location for our patrol vessel for the years to come,” Bonney Lake Mayor Neil Johnson says in the city’s newsletter.

Officer Todd Green of the police department said the boat used to be parked on a trailer or at various docks on the lake.

“We will be able to respond quicker, and since it’s a city park costs will be lower,” Green said.

For those at the lake to have fun it will be a few days before the weather is as nice as it was on the first full day of summer. Rain is predicted for the next few days, with milder temperatures. Starting Wednesday we will have four days of mostly sun with highs in the low 70s
