The Sunrise Visitor Center is also expected to open shortly afterward, on July 3.

Summer's finally here. No, really.

First Solstice, and now, the National Park Service reports via Facebook that crews expect to be able to open Sunrise Road next Friday, June 28.

Visit Rainier, which helps to promote tourism and recreational opportunities at Mount Rainier and its surrounding communities, reports the Sunrise Visitor Center should open by July 3, with Cougar Rock Campground and White River Campgrounds opening June 27 and June 28, respectively.

Meanwhile, work also continues with clearing snow off Mowich Road toward favorite summer hiking destinations including Tolmie Peak and Spray Park. This is expected top open on July 4.

For wildflower lovers, plan your hiking and camping adventures accordingly. The NPS is currently taking reports for a variety of wildflower sightings at its website, and Visit Rainier offers this helpful Top 10 Wildflower Hikes list for enthusiasts. Note several, including Berkeley Park from Sunrise and Summerland are accessible from Sunrise Road.
