"Jesus is Coming, Jesus is Coming"

Predicting the end of the world is like crying, "The Sky is Falling the Sky is Falling." See what the Bible actually says about the return of Jesus.

Really, are we really talking about the end of the world? Harold Egbert Camping, 89-year-old founder of Family Radio, a Christian broadcasting network heard in 61 languages around the globe is predicting just that.

He has predicted the end before, in 1994, but due to a miscalculation it didn’t occur…this time his math is better.

What happened to Jesus telling us it will be an undetectable event?  Why does this goof even get press?  Here is what the scriptures say, let’s get it out there for all to determine where you will put your faith this Saturday:

Matthew 24:36–39 (NIV84) 36 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

Acts 1:7 (NIV84)  7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Mark 13:35–37 (NIV84)  35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’ ”

Harold has put millions of dollars and many people on the streets, advertising that Jesus is returning 6pm Eastern time Saturday the 21st.  So what should our response be?

Pray, make sure we are right with Jesus by confessing him as Lord and being ready and watchful for His return.  We should all seek to learn what is in the Bible and process how we will respond to the directives within it.  I love how the Appostle Paul put it when considering the things being said when he was in prison...think this very much applies to this prediction:

Philippians 1:15–18 (NIV84) 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.  Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,

A great place to grow in a relationship with Jesus in Bonney Lake is Open Life, and we are planning to have service Sunday morning at 10am at Victor Falls Elementary.  Yeah…I think we will all still be here on Sunday, but at least we have begun to think about what the end of the world just might look like due to this dudes prediction.
