"Gathering Place" Project Shapes Up Ahead Of Schedule
Work is pretty much down to a few final touches on Sumner's community fix-up project in the Alley off Main Street.
Construction of the new βGathering Placeβ went quicker than expected this weekend, with nearly all of the improvements installed by Sunday evening -- one day ahead of schedule.
Months in the planning and design, the project brought together community members, volunteers, city employees and businesses to plan, fund, coordinate, build and install cedar benches, planter boxes, metal sculptures and a wooden stage.
Vermont-based Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, which owns the Tulleyβs brand coffee company, provided a grant for the project.Β Manke Lumber Co. donated all of the cedar, while Pacific Machine Inc. donated scrap metal and Parametrix Engineering, Planning & Environmental Science of Puyallup provided free engineering.
