The Sumner School District comprises the cities of Bonney Lake, Edgewood, Pacific and Sumner, including parts ofMore unincorporated Pierce County.

As of 2008-2009, there were 8,297 students enrolled in the Sumner School District. There are 3,146 children in elementary school, 1,262 middle school students and 2,820 high school students. Students can also enroll in online high school through the school district.

The district's graduation rate is 81.1 percent, which is higher than the state's average of 77 percent, according to the Washington State  2008-2009 Report Card.

The Sumner School Board has five members, elected from five separate areas within the district to four-year terms. The board meets one Wednesday of every month.
